Chemical Grouting

Chemical grouting helps turn granular soils into sandstone-like masses through permeation with a low-viscosity grout. The typical method used in chemical grouting includes the following steps:

  • A sleeve port pipe is grouted into a predrilled hole.
  • Under pressure, the grout is injected through port pipes.
  • The grout then permeates the soil and solidifies it into a sandstone-like mass.
  • The grouted soil has become stiffer and stronger, and is now less permeable.

Chemical grouting has been used for the following:

  • Creating excavation support walls
  • Creating water cutoff walls
  • Underpinning existing foundations
  • Preparing soils for tunneling
