Overview
Atlas Restoration was hired to address foundation stabilization needs for a proposed elevator pit at the University of Chicago. Due to poor soil conditions beneath the structural slab, Atlas Restoration was contracted to install new construction helical piles to ensure the long-term stability of the concrete slab. This project required innovative solutions to navigate the challenging environment.
Challenges
The project presented several key challenges:

- Depth Requirements: The helical piles needed to reach a depth of 33 feet to anchor into stable ground.
Solution
Atlas Restoration’s skilled team installed five helical piles by hand, using the Pro-Dig L6K5 motor for precise installation in the tight, confined space. The piles were driven to a depth of 33 feet below ground, ensuring they reached stable, load-bearing soil. A new construction cap was then added to the top of each pile to support the new structural concrete slab.
