SOIL SCREW® Retention Wall System

When a building has a shallow footing adjacent to a proposed construction site, that building can be damaged from settlement due to the removal of soil that is laterally supporting the existing footing. Soil nails create an internally reinforced mass when closely spaced in a regular geometric pattern and protected by a reinforcing face of steel and shotcrete. These are passive elements. The load of the helical soil nail is created across the movement plane as the soil mass moves slightly downward due to gravity. They will then hold the soil as a single mass of sufficient internal stability to provide suitable factor of safety against failure.By combining together ATLAS RESISTANCE® piers, CHANCE® helical anchors, and the SOIL SCREW® retention wall system, the designer is able to safely support an existing structure and the underlying soil mass during adjacent excavations.
